VASA win puts them into pole position

BLACKLEY VASA went to the top of the first division in the Greater Manchester Super League thanks to their 4-3 win over neighbours Grove Inn last Sunday, writes John Gwynne.

John Downs, Jason Green, Billy Cook and Phil Clarke were the winners for VASA.

Newton Heath scraped past Heywood in a match which went down to the wire. John Kurpas took the deciding set for Newton with a 15-darter.

Skipper Pete Ward shone with 14, 15 and 16-dart legs and a 93.14 average. Tony Poole included a 180 in a 13-arrow game and Mark Simister also won.

Newton Heath will play Blackley VASA at the Phoenix on Sunday. Blackley Grove Inn have no match.

Legh Arms moved within a point of Waggon and Horses at the top of the David Bailey Openshaw Summer League with a 5-5 darts and crib draw with Plough.

The Cheetham Hill League’s presentation evening at the Moston Hotel saw Mark Holden of champions Grove pick up both the 301 and slip-up individual awards.

The pairs title went to Ken Alston and Terry Skachill from the Alliance.

Spanking Roger took home both the handicap trophy and knockout cup.

The Intermediate Cup went to the Moston, while the Old Loom took the league runners-up award.

Former world champion Bob ‘The Limestone Cowboy’ Anderson will be in Blackley next Thursday night when he will take on challengers at the Charlestown pub from 8.30pm.
