Polish lads in line up for Aces’ event

THE field is being finalised for the Belle Vue Junior Championship which will be held on Wednesday 16 July.

The line-up will be announced shortly and will include at least two Polish youngsters from the Tarnow club which has a working relationship with the Aces.

Ben Hopwood, Adam Wrathall and Montana Jowett have just been to Poland for a Young Guns tournament in which Hopwood scored a creditable eight points and just missed a semi-final place.

Meanwhile, Aces are looking into the track record which probably wasn’t a record in Monday’s match against Ipswich.

The meeting was televised live by Sky TV, and they used their electronic timer which clocked 55.9 seconds for Jason Crump’s opening race win, that being a full second less than the record he set a fortnight ago.

Crump himself doubted the time, especially as he had eased up on the last lap because he was so far ahead, and checks on a re-run of the race clocked 58.0 seconds.

Aces go with Sky timings because they are given out live, and Neil Drummond, the club’s official Speedway Control Board recorder, said his timings later on the meeting agreed with TV.

But the figure for the first race appears to have been more than two seconds too fast.

One theory is that Ipswich’s Piotr Swiderski retired and the clock may have stopped when he crossed the line with Crump, pictured, still coming round on his last lap.

Aces are now contacting the Promoters’ Association about the possibility of having the official time checked and revised.
