Winning start for Blackley team

BLACKLEY (VASA) opened their Greater Manchester Super League division one campaign on Sunday with a 5-2 victory over neighbours Newton Heath, writes John Gwynne.

John Downs, Mark Smith, Dave Cullen, Kenny Kenyon and Eric Quinn were the Blackley winners. Peter Ward and John Kerpas entered the winners’ enclosure for Newton Heath.

Kerpas included a brilliant 13-darter via 123, 140, 140, 58 and double top. Warren Moloney hit a 180 in defeat.

Blackley (Grove) have their first match on Sunday when they go to Heywood.

Newton Heath play host to Radcliffe Town at the Phoenix, start 12.30pm.
