Europe’s best in town

MENCAP Sport will hold the INAS Open European Athletics Championships in Manchester from 27 to 29 June.

The event, at Sportcity, will incorporate the national championships on Saturday 28 June.

More than 150 athletes from 15 countries are expected to compete.

It is the largest international athletics event for people with learning disabilities to be hosted in the UK.

The opening ceremony will feature performances by local schoolchildren.

THE I Love Me Greater Manchester Youth Games will be held on Saturday 12 July at three sites in Manchester.

The 20th Games will use Wright Robinson Sports College, Belle Vue Athletics Centre and Sportcity.

The 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester will field teams.

A former competitor in the Games was Manchester United star Gary Neville who said: "I am really proud to be an ambassador for the Games.

"Having taken part in the Games a number of years ago it is great to see this fantastic celebration of sport reaching its 20th anniversary.

"Sport has always been such a massive part of my life, and not just in football.

"To everyone involved in the Games this year, give it your best, get involved, and be proud to be part of something you will remember for the rest of your lives."
