Blackley’s fate hangs in the
16/ 5/2008
BLACKLEY lost 6-4 to St Annes in a Lancashire GMC Super League match at the VASA Club last Sunday.
The result leaves their status in Division Two in the balance as they travel to face Little Hulton in their last match of the season this coming Sunday.
Pete Ward, Mark Smith, Alan Cleworth and Billy Cook were the winners against St Annes. Smith, Cleworth and Gary Lyons hit 180s.
On the log-end board, Phoenix (Newton Heath) beat Moston Men’s Club 8-2 on aggregate to lift the Failsworth Premier League’s Subsiduary Cup.
Two of the Phoenix players - Lee Conway and Dave Winfield - reached the final of the pairs knockout but lost to Anthony Hornby and Kevin Pearce from Baldy Bobs.
The Ardwick Mixed League pairs champions are John Boss and Tony Daniels junior from the Albion (Openshaw).
They enjoyed a 2-1 victory over Willis and Steve Brooks from the Royal Oak after disposing of the Nags Head B pairing of Paul Evans and Dave Bunting in the semis.
Another Royal Oak duo - Mike Cooney and Eric Dewhurst - lost in the other semi-final.
Entries are being taken for the Moston Log-End Classic on Friday 30 May. It will be played at the Lightbowne Social Club. The following night the club will stage the Ted Hankey Log-End Challenge. Tickets, priced £5, are on sale at the club.
