Edwin nurses a weakened Valley team to good victory

9/ 5/2008

AFTER going into recent games with a lightened squad, due to injuries, Moston Valley Falcons under 13s, pictured, played their last two matches of the season, and tough matches they were.

First up was a match against third placed Hattersley, and things didn’t look promising for Falcons who were two down at half time.

Falcons started the second half more positively, and after some great football Edwin Nurse took the ball round the keeper and passed to Wayne Sikhosana for him to tap in.

Nurse was next on the scoresheet with a great shot.

Valley took the lead when captain Karl Valentine spotted the keeper off his line and lofted the ball over him.

Hattersley fought back well and gained an equaliser with a diving header, but Valentine restored Falcons’ lead.

Nurse curled a freekick home to make it 5-3, but Hattersley kept fighting and pulled one back.

With minutes to go a corner cross from player of the match Edwin Nurse found Wayne Sikhosana at the back post and he rounded off the scoring.

Sunday pitted Falcons against Failsworth Town Colts in a home fixture, again with a weakened squad.

Falcons were unlucky to fall behind, but they stepped up the pressure, and a well deserved goal soon came from Wayne Sikhosana.

As half time approached Falcons took the lead, and that proved the end of the scoring, although Failsworth did hit a post in the second half.

Falcons are still looking for a few players for next season. They train at Church Lane, Moston, on Wednesday evenings, from 5.30pm.

MOSTON Valley Angels had a great end to the season when they faced Droylsden Juniors.

Lydia Tunstall was first to score for Angels, and her strike was followed by one from Caprice McSharry.

Angels continued their domination and the attacking duo scored again in the same order.

Annette Schofield fired in a great shot, and Caprice McSharry completed her hat-trick before half time.

After the interval both teams played some great football and Droylsden managed to pull a goal back.

But Angels had the last say with a goal from McSharry which made it 7-1.

A well deserved girl of the match award went to midfielder Georgia Caffrey who had an outstanding game.

Annette Schofield put in a fantastic first-half performance, while Sophie Madden, Hollie Egan, Nashay Motler and keeper Natasha Chadwick were all on top form.

VALLEY under eights faced Failsworth West’s C team.

An ever improving Valley side took early control, and they went in front with a great strike from Bailey Moth.

Moth claimed his second from the penalty spot, and the player of the match then went in goal for the second half. He was beaten once, but Failsworth had few other chances which were dealt with.

Lewis Koranteng was a close contender for player of the match.

MOSTON under nines faced Soccer Dynamos on Sunday and showed their strength from the whistle.

A great goal from player of the match Konna Cain put Valley in the driving seat.

Kain McLaughlin was next on the scoresheet for Moston as they maintained the pressure.

Dynamo’s fought back hard and managed to bring the game level at 2-2, but a fantastic corner from Riley Moth curled into the net to put Moston back in front.

The lead was extended when a thundering effort from Riley Moth deflected off a defender into the net.
