Froggatt stars in goal for Youth

8/ 5/2008

AFTER two cup final successes Manchester Youth under 17s returned to league action and a vital match against Stockport Junior Blues.

Manchester opened the scoring following a long throw-in from Curtis Williams. John Buckley flicked the ball on and Alex Sutcliffe was on hand to head home.

Manchester then took full control. Mark Reeves and Osahon Osawe were dominant in midfield and spread the ball wide to Sam Freakes and Jamie Wolden.

It became 2-0 on 40 minutes. Another Williams throw wasn’t dealt with by the Junior Blues’ defence and Jamie Mack hammered the loose ball into the net.

Stockport looked beaten, but they staged a second-half revival, and only an heroic display by Robert Froggatt, pictured, in the Manchester goal kept them at bay.

Froggatt was eventually beaten with three minutes left, but Manchester held out to take the points.
