ABA finalist Stubbs wins a call to fight for his country

2/ 5/2008

TWO Northside boxers are through to senior ABA finals.

Thomas Stubbs, right,  continued his bid for glory in Sheffield last Friday when he beat Anthony Dillon 18-5.

He followed up by beating Ross Downey 20-5 in a semi-final.

Further good news for Stubbs came after that fight when he was told he had been selected to box for England in Hungary in June.

Karl Kirkham beat Ian Turnbull 19-4 in a quarter-final then booked his place in the finals with a 24-9 win over Lee Allen.

It was almost a hat-trick for Northside, but Carl Place was unlucky to lose 9-8 in his quarter-final.

The ABA finals will be held at the York Hall, Bethnall Green, on Friday 16 May.

Northside will stage a show at the Manchester City Stadium, 7.30pm start, on 13 June. Tickets are priced £40, and the cost includes a meal.
