Boot camp for Katie Jane

THE hugely successful Tiger Hunt moves into its next stage this weekend at the PlayGolf Range at the Trafford Centre when 66 young hopefuls enter the ‘Boot Camp’.

The number far exceeds the original 40 that were scheduled to take part in four weeks coaching and mentoring with the PlayGolf professionals.

But such was the impressive talent on view in the auditions from the 500-plus youngsters between the ages of seven and 14, that the judges felt compelled to extend the ‘Boot Camp’ entries.

They will be working in six groups over the Saturday and Sundays beginning October 11 until Sunday, November 3, aiming to make the X-Factor-type final before the judging panel.

Among those at the boot camp will be Katie Jane Stanley, a nine-year-old member at Manchester Golf Club. She was among the first youngsters to go before the judges and one of the first put through.

Craig Whitfield, the PlayGolf manager, said: "The trials were absolutely fantastic and the judges had no option other than to extend the numbers attending the Boot Camp.

"And it maybe that we also have more than 12 going through to the finals day on November 15 when the ‘Tiger’ is chosen.

"All 66 hopefuls will be carefully scrutinised during the Boot Camp but it will still be a very difficult job to select the finalists.

"It was very pleasant to receive many complimentary emails from parents about the trials days."
