Thomas claims national title

THOMAS Stubbs became a national champion last Friday.
Stubbs, who fights out of the Northside club and trains under Joe Pennington, beat Ben Fowl (Hertfordshire) on a 6-2 scoreline to become the first ABA senior champion in the history of his club.
Stubbs, who fill fight for England against Hungary on 5 June, said: "After watching a video of my opponent I knew I was capable of beating him.
"He was smaller than me, and a bit awkward to hit, but once I had changed my tactics I was fine."
Northside had hoped to make it a double, but Karl Kirkham lost a close fight.
Adam Little goes into the ring on Saturday bidding for a place in the finals of the junior ABA’s.
He reached the last four with a 9-8 win over Joe Whitefield of Northumbria, in Newbiggin.
