Extra bins taken from clean-up volunteer

8/12/2006

A WOMAN who has kept her community tidy for years through regular clean sweeps has had her bins removed after a neighbour reported her for having too many bins.

Ann McBride, of Ibberton Walk, Moston, has had the extra three wheelie bins for the last six years, which she has filled with rubbish collected in her neighbourhood.

Mrs McBride said: "I keep the street clean and if anyone has any extra rubbish I put it in these bins. A neighbour has reported me for having these bins here and the council have come to take the bins away. It's really pathetic.

"There's a dispute as to whether I can keep these bins here. They're not left out on the street, as soon as they're emptied five minutes later they're put back.

"It's better than the bin bags being thrown in the street."

A council spokesperson said: "The extra bins have been removed. We have also agreed to deliver additonal bins to Mrs McBride when the clean-ups are taking place and we have arranged to provide her with additional recycling containers.

"We will be undertaking an appraisal of the whole area and residents will be consulted on the possible change from a kerbside to a twin bin scheme."
