Staff walkout as pay talks fail

12/ 1/2007

IT WORKERS are poised for a second wave of strike action after bosses walked out of pay talks.

Union leaders have planned a staff walkout at Fujitsu Services today (Thursday) and tomorrow because the company has withdrawn from discussions with workers, being done through conciliation service Acas.

Ian Allinson, senior representative for the union involved - Amicus - said bosses at the firm, which has offices at Central Park and in West Gorton, was also threatening him with disciplinary action over the issue.

"I think people are very angry. For employers to actually walk away from talks and threaten to discipline the senior union rep is not conducive to getting a sensible settlement.

"People want to see a sensible negotiated settlement that is fair."

He said various things were planned during the strike and warned more action would be taken if it was deemed necessary.

A spokesman for Fujitsu Services confirmed the company had withdrawn from the talks instigated by Acas but would not comment further.

About 850 people work at Fujitsu Services in Manchester, providing call centre services and IT services to magistrates courts and the NHS, as well as government departments such as Revenue and Customs, the Home Office and the Department for Work and Pensions.
