Man sought for push in path of bus

30/ 6/2008

THIS is the man police are hunting on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was deliberately pushed in front of a moving bus.

The victim hit the windscreen of the double decker, breaking his ribs, and was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary following the incident in Downing Street, Ardwick.

He was pushed into the road after a confrontation between the attacker, the victim and his girlfriend turned violent.

Detective Constable Victoria Beardsley, based at Longsight CID, said: "Incredibly, the victim's injuries were not life-threatening but the intent was clear and the consequences could have been tragic.

"We are investigating this crime as attempted murder because the offender must clearly have known that the victim could have died as a result of being pushed in front of a moving double decker bus.

"This is a very serious offence and I would appeal to any witnesses or anyone who has information about the incident to come forward."

Police have released an e-fit of the man they want to speak to in the hope that someone can identify him.

He is black, about 30 years old and heavily built, 5ft 11in tall, with black hair. He was wearing a black baseball cap and a winter coat at the time of the incident, 8pm on Wednesday 5 December 2007.

Anyone with information is asked to call Longsight CID on 0161 856 4269 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
