Shameless puts Gorton on the map

WEST Gorton's Shameless past has put it on the tourism map.
The area, famous as the backdrop to the hit TV show, is included in a list of north west comedy landmarks as part of a campaign to get people holidaying in Britain.
Shameless is now filmed at a purpose-built set near Wythenshawe Hospital.
But that hasn't stopped The Aces pub on Clowes Street - which doubles as The Jockey in the Channel Four series - being included in Visit Britain's Comedy England campaign.
The 150 destinations - landmarks, locations and birthplaces - have been picked because of the way they have inspired British comedy.
Also on the comedy hit-list are Peter Kay's hometown of Bolton, the Derbyshire village of Hadfield, which was the setting for The League of Gentlemen, and the Parrswood Hotel in Didsbury, where Steve Coogan is said to have developed his beer-swilling, student-hating character Paul Calf.
Laurence Bresh from Visit Britain said: "Comedy is an integral part of our heritage and culture and the Comedy England campaign will encourage visitors to explore some of the regions, locations and attractions which have contributed to this and further increase the 100 million trips that Brits take in their own country every year."
