School sexual abuse alleged

Mark Hesford

A SPECIAL hotline has been set up following allegations of sexual abuse going back decades.

A 66-year-old Wigan man has been charged with 28 counts of indecent assault and four counts of indecency with children, one of which is alleged to have taken place at St Margaret Mary's Primary School, New Moston, in the 1960s.

William Green, of Cale Lane, Aspull, is also accused of carrying out sexual abuse at St Bedes College in Whalley Range during the 1970s and early 1980s.

Greater Manchester Police say their investigation has been carried out with the full support and co-operation of the Salford Diocese Child Protection Commission, St Bedes College and Manchester City Council.

Police have set up a helpline for anyone affected by this investigation, which can be called 24 hours a day on 0161 856 6051.

The Salford Diocese Child Protection Commission also has a dedicated 24-hour helpline on 0161 832 8317 or 07730 899978.
