Fire hero

A HERO neighbour rescued a seven-month-old baby from a house fire in Collyhurst.

Rob Tiscoff dived into the inferno at a house on Stretton Close, as his neighbour Kelly Clark screamed that her child was still inside.

The 38-year-old tried to enter the blaze twice before feeling his way across the kitchen to the baby's cot.

He reached inside and pulled the unconscious tot, Andrew, to safety carrying him under his coat as he crawled out of the back door.

The former security guard administered mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until the baby was breathing as six fire crews arrived at the scene.

The mother and her two-year-old son managed to escape the fire, which broke out in the kitchen at 11am on Monday, after neighbours and passers-by screamed at them to get out.

Dad-of-two Mr Tiscoff said: "All I knew is I couldn't live with myself if I didn't get that baby out.

“Windows were exploding and flames and thick black smoke coming through the roof.

“I couldn't see anything but I just thought of my own kids and that it was nearly Christmas.

"When I got to the baby he had stopped crying and was limp but police tell me he is making a good recovery."

Two other adults and a child had also been inside the house but escaped before fire fighters arrived, neighbours said.

The fire shelled the ground and first floor of the end terrace property where piles of furniture and a baby's pram lay outside.
