Why fashion is going floral...

Giulia Boggiano

GARDEN-inspired designs are a huge hit on the fashion front this summer and there are many styles to choose from. From vintage-style small flower prints to huge bold tropical statement dresses - there's a style to suit everyone from birds of paradise to shrinking violets.

Celebrities too are embracing the trend with stars including Denise Van Outen, Nicole Richie and Dita Von Teese all being snapped on the red carpet showing off their fantastic floral designs. While Denise sported small print flowers, Dita and Nicole looked equally as lovely in daring big prints.

I have to admit, I thought it was all a bit too girlie girlie for me - being more of a alternative vintage shopper myself. But, apparently it's a look that can suit us all.

So I went to put the theory to the test by scouting out a floral look that would match my style.

Hitting the high street to find an affordable flowery frock I ploughed through rails of teeny tea dresses, tropical maxi gowns and acres of silky scarves, bags, and even a little lyrca playsuit. Before heading to trusty old Primark where I found this gorgeous vintage 50s-style shirt dress for just £12. Matched with this beacon red belt and cute bow heels for a retro summer look.

One glamorous grandma in store told me she wore a dress just like it on the night she met her husband-to-be - so it must have some blooming appeal{hellip}

Having been converted to the floral trend, we hit the streets of Manchester to see how the city's other fashionistas are working the look.
